At the start of 2008, the Washington Bedans gathered at the penthouse of Arlington Residence Court Hotel and partied all night long to welcome the new year and welcome our new set of officers. Since then, we've had the following activities:

Red Lions Roar to 3-Peat!
San Beda College captured a rare NCAA three-peat as they finished off the feisty Jose Rizal University, 85-69, in front of a season-record 20,360 fans at the Araneta Coliseum.
Sam Ekwe ended his college career with 21 points and 19 rebounds to be adjudged as the Finals Most Valuable Player plum while Ogie Menor exploded for 18 points and eight rebounds as the Red Lions became the first team to three straight titles since the San Sebastian Stags won a five peat during the mid-90’s.
It was the 14th time that the Mendiola-based cagers won a championship, tying Ateneo de Manila for second on the all-time list trailing Letran’s 16.

The Red Lions headed by their coach Frankie Lim, chaplain Abbot Ed Africa, OSB, and four coaches arrived today April 30, 2008 via Philippine Airlines. SBCAASC vice president Vic Martirez, Castillo brothers, Jun and Vic, and Teddy Relatos greeted them at the airport and took them to a late dinner.

The most famous Sto. Nino image from Prague is venerated in the Abbey Church of Our Lady of Montserrat on Mendiola Street (better known as the “San Beda Chapel”). The image carved by Maximo Vicente early in the last century is definitely superior to the original.

Ogie Menor and the Nokia Philippine Youth Team leaves for Kuala Lumpur Monday morning hoping to put in three more days of training before kicking off its campaign in the Southeast Asian Basketball Association Championship for Junior Men on May 1.

Two members of the Washington Bedan are training youth to compete in Winnipeg Canada this coming Labor Day Weekend for the 4th Annual Filipino Basketball Association of North America Tournament. Six teams from the U.S. and six teams from Canada will compete in this prestigious tournament.
